UVU Writing
Garrett Winn's Writing Classes for UVU

Here is where you can discuss the reading that is due for class on the 19th.

Specifically, it is to review AB 109-40 (you should have read this already for 1010), and to read AB 346-68 and 442-43.

Also, for class, remember to email me your teacher draft, bring the proper printed stuff for the paper, and have your interview memo ready for me.

See you in class!

As far as the reading assignment goes I learned a lot of tools to help me summarize my articles. This reading seems like it will be helpul in our next assignment due thursday. I like the part about writing in the margins. I have always been an underliner myself and I find that at the end of a reading I don’t know what the most important parts are because I underlined too much. I also like the idea of writing what the paragraph “says” and “does.” I will start using these tools while analyzing my articles.

The only part in the reading that I didn’t care for was the article on Sesame Street being Sexist. Sometimes I feel like those kind of writers actively seek out and stretch those examples too thin. I definitely didn’t think that there were more boy than girl puppets when I was a kid. I was excited to learn where crayons came from and stuff like that!

Sesame street counter-argument: “why are you homo-phobic?”

This assignment looks like a real challenge for me because it’s more than just quoting and writing. I’m going to have to go eat a few more fish sandwiches for brain food.

I didn’t take ENGL 1010 here at UVU. My community college ENG 101 emphasized personal writings. I’m up to Mr. Winn’s challenge though.
A real word-sculpting assignment.

Bring it on.

J
