Garrett Winn's Writing Classes for UVU
Reading for May 28th
May 27th, 2009 by Garrett in Reading ||

The couple of pages of  reading are about Thesis Statements.

We will be talking about Research Paper thesis statements now.

How are the thesis statements we are doing in this class different from ones you have  done before? Or are they?

This reading was good for me since I struggle with writing the thesis statement myself. I like how it continually says to make the thesis debatable and that it should be clear and focused. The more broad your thesis is, the more evidence is required to support it. Therefore, narrow it down and it becomes easier to find your sources.

I remember the thesis statements that I used to write in high school. They would say something like, “In my paper I will write about blank, blank, and blank.” Now I feel our thesis must be more clear and focused. It will help the reader know what is coming and help them stay on track while reading.
