Garrett Winn's Writing Classes for UVU
Class for Oct. 28
October 27th, 2010 by Garrett in Analysis & Synthesis,Announcements ||

My internet was down most of the day, so I haven’t been able to download or send out many of your synthesis papers that I had remaining. I will get those done this evening. this means I will need to do the Proposals tonight, tomorrow, and Friday. I’ll have the grades, therefore, next Tuesday.

For Thursday, just make sure to get your 2 peer reviews done. Bring your peer review sheets, filled out, to class with you tomorrow.

We’ll finish talking about plagiarism, and about rhetorical appeals.

I am wondering if anyone could give me a brief overview of what we are supposed to put for the aspect of our feild of study in the Proposal paper. I am working on revisions for that paper and am not sure what he means by the comment “but what aspect of that feild of study?” My sentence had been ‘Linguistics, which is the study of languages, is an Anthropological branch of study.’

Garrett replied on November 1st, 2010:

Anthropological Linguistics is a field of study. It seems like you are trying to make anthropology your aspect. However, it seems like you are trying to do sociology or psychology as your aspect: you just need to acknowledge it.

Hope that helps.

I still don’t really understand why what I wrote doesn’t do that already. I know I can’t possibly be doing Sociology because I don’t even really know what that is, and from what I have learned so far about Psychology so far I’m not doing that either because Anthropology is a branch of Psychology so I don’t see how Psychology could be the aspect. I’ll talk to you after class though and hopefully understand better then.
