Garrett Winn's Writing Classes for UVU
Class for Jan. 31
January 26th, 2011 by Garrett in Announcements,Rhetorical Analysis ||

First of all, I decided to postpone the group presentations for an extra week — you’re welcome ;-) . So, we’ll talk about them on Monday and get into groups for it so you’ll have about 2 weeks to get them together.

Second, since your Rhetorical Analysis papers are not due until 11:59 pm on Monday, we’ll also go over in class what you are turning in and how (hint: check the assignment sheet). So, don’t stress too much about it yet. It should only take a couple minutes to pull it all together after class.

Third, take the comments from your peer reviewers, the assignment sheet, the teacher review sheet, and your notes on what we’ve talked about in class about how to analyze the situation, purpose, audience, and claims, and revise your peer draft into a teacher draft. Notice that it is still called a “draft.” Rhetorical Analysis is not an easy thing to do. It takes a lot of practice. I’m excited to see what you’ve all learned from our discussions and be able to point you toward even better analysis.

Fourth, start searching for a second source to use for the next paper.

Fifth, do the reading: GL 65-77 and 138-149.

Sixth, use the worksheet on page 147 to take notes about your current source, and, if you found it, the second source. Send me your notes typed in an email (you do not have to attach a document to the email for the notes, although you are welcome to). I’ll give you some feedback on your synthesis of the text.

Seventh, see you on Monday!

Thank you Mr. Winn! I’m very relieved that you are postponing the presentations so we can get a concrete basis on them.

January 30th is Sunday. This should be for January 31st.

What, don’t want to start the school week earlier?

I am grateful for the peer review that we had last week. It has helped me astronomically! Thanks to my reviewers.

i am a little excited about putting this paper together.

wait! so if my first source was not peer reviewed then i better find me a different source right?

emvawdrey replied on January 30th, 2011:

Jerome, I think that all of our sources need to be peer reviewed. You have a strong knowledge of your paper you will find a peer source in no time :)

thanks em

My stress level has decreased slightly, I have the paper finished and ready tomorrow. Now to start on the Synthesis assignment and finding the 2nd source. The homework seems never ending between all my classes, but it will all pay off in the end!!!!

I would have to agree with that. It was very helpfully to have other eyes read my paper and catch the errors that I made.

hey i’m a little lost on what i need for a cover letter… what exactly do i need to do.. help anyone haha um format etc.

That’s the format for the cover letter. The second page of that document has an example of what it should look like.
