Garrett Winn’s Intermediate Writing Class for UVU
About
Garrett

Welcome to our class website!

This blog is a place for all of us to have discussions, ask questions outside class, and become better writers (remember, the more you write, the better you become).

I reset the assignments every semester, so ignore any posts from previous semester. I will be putting up links to relevant information, articles to read for our class discussions, and examples. In addition, I plan on putting assignment sheets and other information here so you all have easy access.

If I teach more than one section of a class, it may happen that their schedules will be slightly different, so make sure you pay attention to which class I am talking about (in regards to due dates and such). However, the assignments should remain largely the same for both classes.

“The sun is out, put on sunblock.”
A common error made by inexperienced students is trying to combine two statements into one sentence incorrectly. It is clear to see that these two statements need to have their own sentences. Also, a word can be added in order to combine the two statements, and maintain the proper structure of a sentence.
Examples:
The sun is out. Put on sunblock.
The sun is out, so put on sunblock.
