Well, looks like our schedule has to change again folks! There was no class tonight because of a power outage.

I’ll just have everyone turn in their papers on Wednesday in class.

However, I am still expecting everyone to have done the reading for today. So, here is what is due on Wednesday:

  • Read Norton chapters 17 and 39.

  • Read Harris chapters  2A, 2B, 2C, 22A.2, 50E

  • Teacher draft of Literacy Narrative

  • Project Ideas paper

    • The project ideas assignment is to write out the topics you are considering for the research paper and why you are considering them. You’ll want to see how specific you can get, but I mainly just want to see what you are looking at doing (make sure to read the other post here about banned topics). It should be typed and use the format specified in the syllabus (your name, my name, section, date at the top left of the page, etc.).

    You should also start thinking about a person you can interview (see the assignment for section 002)  relating to either your research project or to your major. I recommend interviewing someone for your research topic.

    The interview memo is going to be due soon (check the class notes for your specific section).

    Here are the details:

    Interview Memo

    Interview an expert in your intended profession or about your intended research paper subject, and write a one-page memo. Identify the person, job title, and company/university.

    Ask the following questions:

  • What professional groups do you belong to? (Professional organizations, job related groups)

  • What types of writing-related activities do you do (gathering data, meeting with colleagues, revising, editing).

  • How much time do you spend writing daily or what percent of your time do you spend writing?

  • What form does your writing take (letters, proposals, etc.) and who are the audiences for these documents?

  • What is the most important thing that I should learn from my technical writing class?

  • If you are interviewing them about a research paper topic, you also want to ask them about that topic and where they would go to get more information, and perhaps even who prominent people are in that area.

    • This assignment is worth 10 points.
