Tuesday we are continuing the discussion on rhetorical analysis. We’ll also talk about claims.

Homework:

Read chapter 3 in Green and Lidinsky.

There’s some optional reading in DK Handbook for those who need more help.

Bring a source to class with you (this can be printed out, on a flash drive, or somehow accessible from a computer in the lab – like through your email).

Send me an email with an attachment of your 250 word summary of your source.

This all means that you need to get a research question going and start researching it. The librarians are very helpful if you need help finding something. Feel free to ask questions on the blog or ask me in an email about different research questions.

Bring a print out of the Research History report (see assignment sheet)

Welcome to students of English 2020 sections 601 and 603.

This is our class blog.

You’ll find the syllabus, assignment sheets, and most class handouts on the 2020 Info page (link on the right).

You’ll find helpful links and information relative to the class and researching on the Resources page.

This blog is where you will find announcements, instructions, and help for your work this semester in 2020.

Finally, I also anticipate that it will be a place for you to join a discourse community of students outside your own class and to enhance your learning and study. I use this blog much like Blackboard is used by other teachers.

Final Class of the Summer!

For our final class, we’ll be handing in portfolio stuff and then having a party!

See your classmates if you have a question about what to bring to the party.

I forgot to mention in class, but if you noticed that I haven’t given you credit for all your trips to the writing center, then bring your copies of the little slip with you on Tuesday. I haven’t gotten very many and I know several of you have gone recently.

You’ll need paper and a pen for class tomorrow. You do not need to bring your books if you don’t want.

Although there is no homework or reading for class, you should be working on your portfolios.

I’m working on getting the Exploratory Research Paper reviews done.

Class for June 15th

The only thing to do for class is to have your Exploratory Research Paper teacher draft ready to go.

Make sure to bring the peer review sheets and peer draft to class. Attach any printed sources. Email me your teacher draft, any additional sources, a document that has a paragraph about what you want me to look for and a second paragraph responding to your peer reviews, and the teacher review sheet (as an RTF document).

Also, please bring paper for your in-class essay.

Class for June 10th

The last peer review day!

Remember to bring 3 copies of your Exploratory Research paper. If you have printed versions of sources (I’ll bring the ones you turned in for the last paper), please bring them with you.

Also, bring 1-2 examples of graphics (any kind of graphic, like I talked about in class).

Finally, you must turn in any and all revisions tomorrow. Please include all previous drafts (peer draft, teacher draft with my comments showing), peer review sheets, the teacher review sheet (the one I wrote comments on), any relevant sources, and a document that tells what you changed (or didn’t) and why – be brief. You can submit most of the stuff in hard copy form (except the new draft and the “what changed” document), electronic, or some combination of the two.

Class for June 8th

For the reading, just skim through the pages. If you notice something that you want (or need) to learn more about, then study that part. You should know where everything is generally in case there is a quiz.

Your Proposal and Annotated Bibliography Teacher Draft is also due. Make sure to email me the appropriate files and bring to class the other required papers.

Also, please bring one or two examples of poor grammar. They can be from something you have written or something you have found. Be prepared to share what is wrong with it.
